"Art, Music and the Muse"
Events on the second day of the Annapolis Jazz & Roots Festival take place at the Banneker-Douglass-Tubman Museum and focus on both visual art and music.
Artist Jabari Jefferson's groundbreaking exhibition "Sacred Spaces" is featured at the museum and includes remarkable works on canvas, sculptures and a large-scale community installation created with area students and residents. The innovative young artist used oil paint and mixed media (salvaged materials such as textiles, books, soil and clothing), to build the provocative artwork on display.
Formed at Juilliard, the Abeo Quartet was the inaugural Graduate String Quartet in Residence at the University of Delaware (2021-2023). Its accolades already include prizes at the Fischoff, Melbourne, and Yellow Springs competitions and performances at the Kennedy Center and Lincoln Center. The Quartet channels its energies into the dramatic first quartets of Mendelssohn and Brahms and the distinctive voice of American composer Adolphus Hailstork.

With a deep catalog of original and cover songs, the Michael McHenry Tribe keeps alive the spirit of Jimi Hendrix and Sly Stone, fortified with healthy doses of Stevie Wonder, James Brown and Prince. With a groove oriented rhythm section and a kindred spirit out front, the trio achieves a level of telepathy that makes each performance feel like their first, yet sound like their thousandth. Blessed with a loyal fanbase, the Tribe reciprocates their infectious energy by delivering concerts with a kind of rock and soul that seems to have limitless power.
The TU Jazz faculty offer their semester's recital featuring original music and fresh takes on jazz classics. The members of the ensemble will be: Jason Rigby on saxophones; Dave Ballou on trumpet; Jeff Reed on bass; John Lee on guitar; and Eric Kennedy on drum set.
