This is a 12-week afternoon class for ages to 9 – 12. Students will focus on building skill, craftsmanship, and discuss technique to build deeper relationships with tools and materials. They will explore texture, color and shape while building technical skills as they create a wide variety of wonderful creations.Each class session will introduce a new technique and present a new, exciting challenge. All works will be created in red earthenware, decorated with vibrant AMACO velvet underglaze and glaze fired to cone 04. Class includes all materials and firing.

At one time the summer home of War of 1812 captain Henry Thompson and then philanthropist Johns Hopkins, the story of Clifton Estate is one about two prominent businessmen, enslaved & free Black people, and more. You’ll see the latest restorations made possible by the Friends of Clifton Mansion and Civic Works. You will also be invited into unrestored spaces that are brimming with stories to tell!

Meet Danny Joe and his puppet pals at MCHC for a playdate! During this interactive performance, we’ll saddle up with the quickest drawer in the west, a cowboy named Buck. A. Roo. Everyone feels overwhelmed sometimes, so together we’ll practice different ways to take control of complex feelings through art, song, and dance. Giddyup, partner! Participants will make and take a related STEAM/SEL art project to continue the play at home. Suitable for families and children 3–6 years.

During this virtual guided course, educators, therapists, counselors, and guardians learn how to use puppets to create bridges of trust, engagement, communication, and motivation with children. Designed and taught by Lindsey “Z” Briggs, co-artistic Director of WonderSpark Puppets and Foundation Manager of The Jim Henson Foundation. Registration includes two 2-hour sessions and a customized hand puppet-making kit. A beneficial experience for those working with children in neurodiverse populations. Registration is required, space is limited.
