Creative Alliance presents Drag Story: Reading is FUNdamental!
Every THU | 1PM | Facebook Event Page Live Feed
Hey parents! Join us on Thursdays after lunch with your kids for a family-friendly Facebook Live Feed drag storytime event featuring some of Baltimore's favorite drag personas.
Before language existed to identify persons whose gender expression and/or sexuality were non-conforming, 19th and early 20th century local newspapers offered tantalizing clues that all was not straight and narrow. A few decades later, the 1930s previewed the openness of recent times before giving way to a darker, more perilous era for LGBTQ+ people in the 1950s. After reviewing these twilight years, this program will look at the beginnings of the current movement toward LGBTQ+ visibility and rights.

Baltimore-based artist McKinley Wallace III aims to create illustrative mixed-media paintings of people caught within, and absent from, site-specific places in distress. McKinley’s works and artistic mission converge in a singular thesis: to uncover the forgotten pieces of humanity and its aggression. Keondra Prier, Manager of School Programs, joins him for a discussion of his work and its connection to paintings in the Walters collections.
About the Artist:
The Peabody String Sinfonia is a student-run, conductor-less orchestra whose mission is to bring healing and beauty to people in our Baltimore community through music. Sinfonia is composed of Peabody students and alumni who volunteeer their time for this project. Its members believe music is now more important than ever.
During this time of social distancing and isolation, music allows us as humans to communicate and connect with other humans. Sinfonia will share both classical music for string orchestra as well as arrangements of familiar pop songs.
