Open Works seeks Shop Technicians

Salary: $14-16/hour, commensurate with experience. Techs eligible for 50% discount on full membership only ($125 value at $62.50/month).

Hours: Flexible; 10-30 hours a week depending on availability. Night and weekend availability a plus.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience: 2 years of experience minimum as an architect, artist assistant, art handler, computer technician, industrial designer, electrician, engineer, fabricator, finish carpenter, plumber, sculptor, sewer, or similar field.

Job description: Techs are responsible for monitoring shop activity in concert with shop managers in order to maintain a safe operating environment; building shop furniture; installing and maintaining equipment. Candidate should be reliable, flexible, and willing to learn new skills. Candidate should be comfortable with Microsoft Office, email, social media, and basic design software. Candidate should be physically able to stand for 6-8 hours a day and regularly lift 25+ pounds. Job may require night and weekend hours.

+ Maintaining, repairing, and upgrading tools, equipment, and computers under the supervision of the shop manager

+ Maintaining a clean and organized shop environment

+ Assisting members with technical questions

+ Moving materials and equipment

+ Building shop furniture, jigs, fixtures, and installing items around the facility

+ Staffing the front desk and retail area

+ Setting up and tearing down for events
