Creative Alliance seeks Community Arts Manager

The Creative Alliance seeks a Community Arts Manager to manage and develop new community-based programs that serve and strengthen the communities of Southeast Baltimore, including new and older generations of immigrants, refugees and longstanding residents. The Community Arts Manager is responsible for managing signature events and large family festivals, including Great Halloween Lantern Parade that reaches 10,000-12,000 people of all ages, and World Refugee Day, and Maryland Traditions Folklife Festival. Key responsibilities of this position include building strong relationships with the community, Baltimore residents, youth and older adults, libraries, churches, local businesses, community partners, non-profits and foundations in Baltimore. The following are illustrative tasks:

  • Establishes and maintains partnerships with neighbors and community organizations, e.g. area schools, neighborhood groups, churches, resident youth and older adults, and businesses
  • Create original art programs that support the goals of Creative Alliance
  • Fundraising, grant writing, managing community budgets and grant reports
  • Direct staffing and budgeting for larger community programs
  • Increase community participation in the arts and culture, both at The Patterson and in the region
  • Foster dialogue between diverse groups of people in the community
  • Cultivate opportunities for neighborhood engagement and professional development for neighborhood artists and performers
    • Maintain strong connections with the African American and Latino community in Southeast Baltimore, including local media and newspapers
    • Supervise & manage translated Creative Alliance promotional text into Spanish when appropriate
    • Manage the community programs demographic reports and evaluations

Requirements:

  • 3 years experience in developing and implementing community arts programs/projects
  • Experience with all facets of project and events management: develop timelines, production schedules, volunteer jobs, managing budgets, hiring and supporting emerging and professional artists in a profound community engagement process
  • At least 3 years supervisory experience
  • 3 years of proven grants writing experience
  • Proficiency in community arts projects
  • Excellent writing and speaking skills
  • Must be well organized and work independently
  • Able to partner and collaborate with diverse staff and audiences

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the local and regional nonprofit arts community funders
  • Fluent in Spanish
