UMBC's Livewire 11: Rewired new music festival, hosted by the Department of Music, presents an immersive installation, entitled Raaz, by UMBC music faculty Linda Dusman and Alan Wonneberger, with Information Systems faculty Foad Hamidi, and Keith R. Porter Imaging Facility director Tagide deCarvalho. According to the artists, “Raaz, which means secret in Farsi, is a multimedia bioart installation that centers on the concept of poetry-infused transgenic wine created using genetically modified yeast.

UMBC's Livewire 11: Rewired new music festival, presented by the Department of Music, continues with a concert by Cantata Profana.
On Friday evening, Cantata Profana will present an avant-garde multimedia salon show that will gradually deconstruct a small instrumental chamber ensemble back into its fundamental theatrical and material components. Along the way, Cantata Profana’s core performers will be joined by UMBC faculty Airi Yoshioka and Lisa Cella. The program features work by Claude Vivier, Victoria Cheah, Gleb Kanasevich, and Steven Kazuo Takasugi.

UMBC's Livewire 11: Rewired new music festival, presented by the Department of Music, concludes on Saturday night with a performance by the dynamic piano-percussion quartet Yarn/Wire in a mind-bending program of works by Klaus Langand Misato Mochizuki. In Lang’s gorgeous work, time seems to stand still; while in Mochizuki’s explosive work, the theatricality of chamber music once more bursts to the fore.
Maestra Alsop returns to the stage for the first time this season with the delightfully comic Till Eulenspiegel’s Merry Pranks by Strauss and COLOR FIELD, a BSO commission and world premiere from composer Anna Clyne. Audience favorite Lukáš Vondráček reunites with Marin as he takes on Rachmaninoff’s epic Piano Concerto No. 2.

In the dark places of the world, elusive and frightening creatures make their homes untouched by the ever-expanding influence of mankind. Drawn forth by the lure of Epic Partying, the veil has now been lifted on these secretive beasts, and there is much they can teach us, for they represent the last sliver of mystery from the Old World. But beware, there are those that would seek to destroy what they represent. Prepare yourself, for here there be monsters.
As part of Domestic Violence Awareness month, the community will gather in Patterson Park to walk in solidarity to end domestic violence during the inaugural Reach for the Stars Walkathon on October 29 from 5 to 8 p.m. Domestic violence cases have increased during the pandemic as more people have stayed home and experienced financial hardships, which makes it even more difficult to get help or leave an abusive relationship.
Join the Baltimore Children’s Choir for a free, family-friendly, outdoor musical performance along the Baltimore Museum of Industry’s waterfront. Youth ages 8-18 will present a variety of repertoire in this one-hour performance supported in part by the Maryland State Arts Council (msac.org). The Baltimore Children’s Choir is a nonprofit organization that makes choral music accessible to children in the greater Baltimore area, in a positive, child-centered environment.

The eminent, Israeli-born pianist Shai Wosner joins forces with ECCO—a conductorless ensemble featuring 17 leading soloists and chamber musicians of today’s younger generation, many of whom are principals in major American orchestras as well as leaders of internationally renowned quartets. Their collaborative program melds the baroque and contemporary, interspersing beloved Bach concertos with compelling new works by Brett Dean, Andrew Norman, and ECCO violinist Michi Wiancko.
Columbia Pro Cantare opens its 45th season with a performance of Vivaldi's Gloria. Conducting the chorus and orchestra will be assistant music director, Laura Lee Fischer. Location and time for this concert are to be announced at a later date.
Skull and Bones is a symphonic showcase meets Halloween rave. Classic orchestra showpieces like The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, “Mars” from The Planets, Danse macabre, and the finale of Shostakovich’s 5th Symphony are played in their original form then remixed and combined with electronic beats; layered with vocal stems of Post Malone, Muse, Drake, and Kanye West; and woven into dancehall floor-killers.
