About The Conference

In marking 26 years of serving the Black Dance field, the International Association of Blacks in Dance (IABD) will host its 29th Annual International Conference and Festival in Dallas, TX from January 25 – 29, 2017. Join Dance professionals for this exciting event who represent the broadest gathering of Black Dance professionals in the US and Internationally, including agents, artistic directors, artists, choreographers, company managers, executive directors, historians, presenters, scholars, teachers, and so many others.


The Ultimate Dance Experience
Over four days, participants will engage in invaluable professional and networking opportunities. Workshop and Panel Sessions will provide experiential hands-on learning paired with examples of successful new models that reflect the field’s entrepreneurial spirit and will inspire new thinking for a vibrant future for Dance. Performance presentations will also include Dance organizations from around the country and abroad.

Dance for Youth
Teachers, Instructors, Studio Owners – we’ve planned some great activities for you and your students! Dance classes are available for your students and teacher at the Conference and Festival! You will receive instruction from the leading Master Teachers in all genre’s of Dance!

For Professionals and Pre-Professionals
Professional/college and pre-professional dancers can register for the conference and festival package that includes master classes and tickets for the performance presentations. The Conference and Festival also offers scholarship auditions for summer programs and college/university dance programs as well as a multi-dance company audition for professional dance companies in ballet, modern, and contemporary dance.

Performance Opportunities
The International Association of Blacks in Dance (IABD), the service organization for dancers of color announces three performance dance presentations, at the heart of the conference, and the opportunity for artists, educators, and scholars to share their research work with conference attendees in Dallas, TX: Youth, Emerging, Established, Founding, International and Guest Artist Companies and/or Individuals.
