Many Anniversaries to Celebrate

During the weekend of Artscape, GBCA had the pleasure of spending a great deal of one-on-one time with our members and leaders from the cultural community. Getting to know Fuzz Roark from the Audrey Herman Spotlighters Theatre was a particular pleasure. Spotlighters is entering its 53rd(!) season in Baltimore. Its Young Actors Academy was among the GBCA members who performed at our cultural tent.

Other member anniversaries you might like to know of include the 120th season of the Modell Performing Arts Center at the Lyric, the 80th season of the Handel Choir of Baltimore, and Arena Players is 61 this year!

Celebrating their 100th anniversary, the Baltimore Museum of Art recently hired its first Deputy Director of Digital Experience, Nancy Proctor. Nancy and Director Doreen Bolger met with GBCA last week to share their insights about technology and archives. Their reflections on the historic value of the Baker Artist Awards site provided incredible food for thought as the program enters its seventh year.

Speaking of technology, you have probably wondered about (or at least heard of) MOOCs or Massively Open Online Courses and the ways in which they are or will change the educational landscape. Create Equity has a fascinating article that helps explain MOOCs and discusses their potential for arts education.

P.S. Full disclosure, my new not-so guilty summer pleasure is Laura Lippman's Tess Monaghan detective series!
