Baker Artist Awards at the Baltimore Book Festival, updates with the Rubys Artists Grants and more!

Executive Director's Letter
September 23, 2014

The Baltimore Book Festival is coming to the Inner Harbor and we are pleased to announce that Baker Artist Award winners will be well represented. Katherine McCord, Jenny O’Grady and Michelle “Love the Poet” Nelson will present readings on Friday, September 26 at 3:00PM at the Ivy Bookshop Stage. Speaking of the Baker Artist Awards, the site opens next week for 2015 nominations!

Since the Greater Baltimore Cultural Alliance works to significantly increase organizations’ and artists’ capacity to do great work, we are excited about The Rubys Artists Grants Program. The jury is in and results have been tallied. Watch for the announcement of the literary arts and visual arts Rubys grantees next week. In the meantime, there is great news of the many projects underway from the earlier media arts and performing arts categories including Glen Ricci’s The Mesmeric Revelations! Of Edgar Allan Poe, an immersive theatre experience to debut in early 2015.

GBCA works to raise visibility and build audiences for its members by participating in festivals like Artscape. This year, we will also be representing cultural organizations at The Baltimore Family Reunion Expo, which promotes Baltimore as a destination for family gatherings. Being held at the Reginald F. Lewis Museum of Maryland African American History & Culture, it’s also a fun-filled event to add to your Inner Harbor itinerary this weekend.

On the professional development front, GBCA’s Urban Arts Leadership Program is now accepting applications for Fellows and Host organizations – and the good news is that the application deadline has been extended to Monday, October 6.

Best,
Jeannie
