Exciting Developments in Station North

Executive Director's Letter
March 10, 2015

Congratulations to our friends at Jubilee Baltimore on the lighting of the marquis on their new project, The Centre at 10 East North Avenue. This once vacant 67,000 square foot building will be home to a new center of arts and innovation on North Avenue. GBCA members Maryland Institute College of Art, Johns Hopkins University, and the Baltimore Jewelry Centerwill all have a presence there in the Station North Arts and Entertainment District.

The celebration at The Centre is the first of three important developments that also include The Motorhouse, which will be a hub for the arts, and The Parkway Theatre, which will be the new home of the Maryland Film Festival.

I hope you will be able to join us tomorrow, March 11th at 12pm for our Brown Bag on the Arts and Healing—a topic that warrants a full conference, but that our exciting panel—which includes Peter Bruun, Alonzo LaMont and Dr. Monica Lopez-Gonzalez—will delve into. Connect and share your experiences and knowledge with other artists and practitioners. The dialogue will be moderated by Jon Spelman, master storyteller. You can still RSVP here.

Now that we seem to have emerged from the last snow of the season (knock on wood), the town hall style meeting with Baltimore City School's CEO, Dr. Gregory Thornton, has been rescheduled for March 25 at the Baltimore Design School. Come out to hear more and ask questions about City Schools’ plans for arts education and a complete education for every child in the District.

All the best,
Jeannie
