Congratulations Mayor Elect & Baltimore City Council

Executive Director's Letter
November 15, 2016

Congratulations to Mayor-elect Catherine Pugh on her victory Tuesday. She has consistently engaged in partnerships with artists and cultural organizations to build strength and success in Baltimore and throughout the state of Maryland. We are excited to work in partnership for the good of Baltimore City. You can learn more about her views on arts and culture at citizenartist.vote/candidates/. GBCA also extends its congratulations to the city council members who were re-elected or have been elected for the first time. You can see a full list of Council members on the Baltimore City Council website.

Unlike our city elections, the results of Tuesday's Presidential election show a great national divide. At this time, the participation of the cultural sector in healing and uniting communities has never been so critical.

We must use our creativity and resources as artists, advocates, space-makers, and change agents more fiercely than ever before. We must harness our power to call out, call people in, and to organize. GBCA believes that members of the cultural community, regardless of political affiliation, can move our country toward equity, civility, and a better quality of life for all citizens. It is time to heal, refocus, and forge the way forward.

GBCA is grateful to our weekly newsletter subscribers and we’re glad that you are a part of our family. As you might imagine, it takes our entire village to provide you with up-to-date jobs listings, news from around the world, interesting events and thoughtful musings on the day. Every single person at GBCA touches, improves, and contributes to this important communication.
