Two of My Favorite Woman Artists

Both Maya Angelou and Nina Simone were change-makers, as well as activist artists that had a connection to Baltimore. They utilized their immense talent as form of messaging that will live forever entwined in their amazing legacy.

Maya Angelou – This image shows me having the honor of greeting Mya Angelou. This interaction took place the early 1990’s at a small book store in Mondawmin Mall. She was in town for a series of book signings.

Nina Simon – Nina Simone sang of Baltimore, and the word ring true in an eerie timeless way… “Oh Baltimore! Ain’t it hard to live… Just to live?”
