Executive Director 10/6/20

It's another big week for Baker Artist Portfolios. First and in order to respond to the needs of artists who have been severely impacted by COVID 19, the entire awards process for the 2021 season has been reconfigured. The $90,000 pool of funding usually reaches six artists annually. This year it will be awarded in the amount of $2,500 to 36 artists. We are grateful to the Board of Governors at the William G. Baker, Jr. Memorial Fund for their support and vision in making this change.

Artists still have until December 21, 2020 to create or update their portfolios for consideration for one of this year’s 36 awards. Knowing that the need is urgent, GBCA will accelerate the adjudication timeline. This will allow the award funds to be disbursed three months earlier than in previous years. Second, we are so excited to announce that the annual Baker awards special on Maryland Public Television's Artworks is THIS FRIDAY at 7:30 pm. The program will celebrate the 2020 Baker Artist Awardees, including the $40,000 Mary Sawyers Imboden Awardee, Susan Waters-Eller along with the five Mary Sawyers Baker Awardees: Laura Amuseen, Ami Dang, Ryan Johnson, Matthew Porterfield, and Jung Yun. The special will also feature recaps of the 2019 awardees, and a special memorial tribute to 2014 awardee, Brent Crothers.

You can catch the program on MPT at the following dates and times:

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 9, 7:30 pm on MPT-HD

Saturday, October 10 at 8 p.m. exclusively on MPT ENCORE

Sunday, October 11 at 6:30 a.m. on MPT-HD.

This year, Wendell Patrick is hosting the 2020 Baker Artist Awards Special, which will also be live-streamed directly to MPT's website, and will soon be available to watch on GBCA's YouTube page.

We are proud to support the important work of Baltimore area artists and to celebrate their many achievements.

Artists, please be sure to work on your Portfolios and tune in with the rest of us for the MPT special.

Be well,

Jeannie
