Executive Director’s Letter

June 7, 2022

GBCA is pleased to welcome our newest team member! Richard Okonkwo has joined the staff as Marketing and Communications Manager, and will be working to elevate the messages of GBCA and its many members and partners. Richard is a strategic communications and image management professional with remarkable successes in crafting mission-focused strategies for corporate and brand integrity enhancement, protection, and positioning. Describing himself as a “consummate communicator and an organizational storyteller,” Richard will be helping us to create meaningful connections with our GBCA family and the public.

Like many on the GBCA team, Richard is also creative. In addition to designing men’s apparel, he enjoys taking scenic photographs, calligraphy, and creative writing. He holds a B.A. in Public Relations and an MBA from Morgan State University.

This weekend I had the pleasure of meeting Mark Hanson, who recently joined the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) as President & CEO. Mark comes to the BSO following notable tenures at the San Francisco Symphony and Houston Symphony that were marked by exciting music director appointments, restored balanced budgets, improved internal cultures, and deepened community impact. We look forward to hearing great things and ask that you join us in welcoming Mark to the community.

All my best,

Jeannie

P.S. Don’t miss your chance to participate in two One Maryland One Book opportunities with a deadline of June 17. Organizations can apply to co-host Maryland Humanities’ 2022 author, Naima Coster, on the official Author Tour this fall. You'll find the application here. June 17 is also the final day to apply for up to $500 in funding to support public events related to Coster’s novel What’s Mine and Yours in your community.
