The Barrie School and Winter Growth, an adult day and assisted living facility, are teaming up with The Art Gallery of University of Maryland to offer this exciting teaching artist opportunity. This Artist in Residence position is ideal for someone committed to engaging the community in an experiential art installation project. Applicants should have an interest in educating learners of all age levels, community outreach, and generational diversity. Description of program and expectations: The intent of this residency is to strengthen the ties between three educational facilities for different age groups through art. The artist will have the opportunity to work with students from Barrie School (pre-k through 12th grade), University of Maryland (undergraduate and graduate program), and Winter Growth (adult care facility) to create a public art installation. The artist will have several choices of site, depending on the nature of the piece. The resident will also be expected to lead an Intensive Weekend Workshop with UMD graduate and undergraduate students in the artist’s medium. Other Co-teaching opportunities will be available, but not required. Housing, studio, and equipment will be provided at Barrie School, located on a wooded campus within walking distance of the DC metro. The residency will be February through May.

- $6k maximum budget for raw materials
- Proposals must fit the theme “Generational Diversity”
- AIR must engage students of all ages from the Barrie school (pre-k through 12th), University of Maryland, and Winter Growth in a multi-generational art installation project
- Intensive Weekend Workshop with UMD graduate and undergraduate students in the artist’s medium - Co-teaching opportunities at occasional Saturday workshops at UMD (only if applicable) Compensation, housing, facilities available
- $750/month, housing, and studio space

-Experience working as an Artist in Residence a plus, but not required
Selection Process Timeline September 5th
- Proposal applications due Week of September 22nd
- Finalists chosen Week of September 29th
- Selection assemblies at Barrie and with Winter Growth Communities October 3rd
- AIR notified February through May 2015
