Executive Director’s Letter November 20, 2018

I am grateful for so many things—my family, the incredible GBCA staff, the GBCA Board of Directors, and all of GBCA's members and supporters. I am also grateful to live in a city with ferociously committed artists and cultural leaders.

Recently, we were challenged by one of those cultural leaders! The William G. Baker, Jr. Memorial Fund (who I am also grateful for) has offered GBCA a $10,000 membership match grant, no strings attached if we can raise $10,000 from our members. Won’t you please consider adding a gift to your membership this year to help demonstrate how important GBCA is to you? We believe that arts and culture create communities where people want to live. GBCA helps artists and organizations in the Baltimore region thrive through programs like Culture Fly, access to professional development workshops with superstars like Liz Lerman, Theatre convenings, Urban Arts Leadership initiatives, and advocacy for the sector.

We are halfway to our goal, so every contribution counts. No gift is too small, or too big. You can make your gift here. Just click “other” on the landing page and insert your contribution amount. If your organization is already a member or would like to become one, use this link instead. You can do this today, or as part of next week’s Giving Tuesday. Let’s end this year strong together.

Have you been keeping track of GBCA’s new features column, Limelight? In this series, local writers join us to talk about cultural organizations, artists, and events, particularly those that highlight the region’s strength and diversity. This week author Rebekah Kirkman gives her take on the Romare Bearden exhibition at the Reginald F. Lewis Museum of Maryland African American History and Culture. Read the full article here.

Speaking of new series, I was honored to be invited to participate in the Americans for the Arts blog series featuring women in arts leadership. You can check out my piece and the full series here. In follow up, GBCA will be inviting area women leaders to blog with us. Keep an eye out and we’ll be sure to keep you posted.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Jeannie
