Call For Entry - A Juried Exhibition of Works Inspired by Salvador Dalí

Harford Dance Theatre (HDT), the resident community dance company at Harford Community College, invites artists to submit works inspired by Salvador Dalí and Surrealism. The selected works will be shown in conjunction with HDT’s production ofKinetic Canvas: Salvador Dalí in August 2017. For its summer show each year, the company creates an original dance-theatre production inspired by a visual artist to explore the connections between the performing and visual arts.

The juried show will be exhibited outside of the theatre entrance as a complement to the staged performances. Just as the performances are inspired by Dalí and Surrealism, we are looking for works of art that engage in a similar conversation.

Specifications and Guidelines:

All artwork must be original and inspired by the work of Salvador Dalí.

Pieces may be any medium, including photography. (We cannot accept 3-Dimensional pieces at this time.)

The chosen pieces should be ready for hanging with wires installed.

Artists are allowed up to two (2) submissions. All submissions must be electronic. Please send up to 3 images of artwork to [email protected] with the email subject line “Kinetic Canvas Art Submission (Last Name).” To the email, attach your photographs and completed submission form, found below. Incomplete entries will not be considered.

The deadline for submission is 11:59 PM on Friday, June 30, 2017.

Five finalists will be selected by a jury of Visual, Performing and Applied Arts faculty at Harford Community College and notified in July 2017. The selected art will be displayed at Kinetic Canvas, on August 4 and 5, 2017 and the artists will be invited to attend the event.

HCC holds the right to use any submitted image of artwork for promotional material such as newsletters, recruiting materials, and print and web-based media.
