Executive Director Newsletter 1/5

Happy New Year

Thank you to our many members and supporters who made contributions at the close of 2020. If you weren’t able to meet that deadline, it’s not too late. We expect uncertainty and financial challenges to the sector will continue throughout 2021. That means GBCA’s services will continue to be critically important. To make a gift and become a member, visit GBCA’s website.

What would Baltimore be like if arts and culture was fully and responsibly embedded in public life? That’s the question being posed by the Mayor’s Transition Team on Arts and Culture. To respond and share your arts and culture vision text or call (443) 863-9955. This is your opportunity to be a part of the dialogue that will help shape Mayor Scott’s strategy.

Time keeps on slipping by, so don’t let this deadline get away from you. Artists have just 17 days left to enter and still be eligible for the 2021 Baker Artists Awards. GBCA is committed to making the process equitable and accessible to artists of all kinds. If you need help honing your vision for a portfolio, or navigating technical aspects of the site, the final two information sessions will be held tomorrow, Wednesday, January 6th, at noon and 6:00pm. Click here to learn more or RSVP. If you can’t make the sessions, or want personalized support, starting on Thursday, January 7 artists can sign-up for individualized 30 minute Working Sessions including dedicated technical assistance and feedback. Click here to reserve your spot! Please help spread the word. Artists with an active Baker Artist Portfolio on January 21st at 5:00pm will automatically be considered for an award.

Thank you to The Walters Art Museum for its leadership in addressing the pay gap for hourly workers in cultural institutions around the country. Effective immediately upon the museum's reopening, all full-time hourly position wages will be increased to a $15/hour floor with a $13/hour floor for all part-time positions. This change will affect some of the museum's most important ambassadors and set an example for others inside and beyond the creative sector.

As the winter season continues, protect yourself and your loved ones from COVID-19. Remember: mask up, wash your hands, and keep your distance!

My best,

Jeannie
