Doin’ It On The Road: An Artist’s Guide to Touring and Community Engagement
Focusing on cultivating relationships with prospective presenters and building strategic partnerships, this workshop provides practical information for touring artists including samples of useful tools such as contracts, structures for pricing your work, a technical rider, insurance and a resource guide which includes subsidy opportunities, grant programs and field connections. Engaging with community beyond the stage creates a more deeply invested audience, breathes new life into the work, and increases the artist’s marketability. Through participatory, problem-solving exercises, attendees will explore how to negotiate community engagement activities in different settings.

Presenting 101 Pre-Conference

Monday, September 28 | Noon – 4:30 p.m.
Baltimore Conference Center

PAE pre-conference workshops are free for conference attendees; please RSVP during your registration process or contact Ethan for assistance.

What does it mean to be a good presenter? Presenting 101 answers that question and serves as an introduction for those new to the field, or a refresher for those who wish to review and update their skills. This pre-conference workshop will cover the essential elements of programming and artistic planning, contracts and negotiations, production logistics, marketing and promotion. In one afternoon, you’ll get the broad overview of the work of presenting, taught by two outstanding professionals. Presenting 101 is a standardized professional development curriculum offered by the Network of Regional Performing Arts Conferences – the Performing Arts Exchange, Arts Midwest Arts Conference and Western Arts Alliance Conference. Support for its initial development provided by the Thomas S. Kenan Institute for the Arts and the Cultural Human Resources Council of Canada.
