Executive Director’s Letter August 28, 2018

Ready or not, it’s time to kick off the fall season (a few GBCA staff members were quick to point out that today is the season debut of the Pumpkin Spice Latte despite the 92-degree temperature outside). Among the many exciting arts and culture events coming up is the Tenth Anniversary Baker Artist Awards Opening Celebration. I hope you'll join us at the Baltimore Museum of Art on September 12 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM for this landmark evening. The event will launch an exhibition of works by visual and interdisciplinary artists Abraham Burickson, Sara Dittrich, David Marion, and Amy Sherald and event is free and open to the public.

Also featured will be showcases from 2018 Baker Awardees in Performing, Music, Film and Literary Arts: Lafayette Gilchrist, Dora Malech, Margaret Rorison, and Lisi Stoessel. Come on out and celebrate with GBCA and the William G. Baker, Jr. Memorial Fund! Just in case you can’t make it or want to come back for another look, the exhibition on display through October 14, 2018.

Speaking of the fall season, it was great to see the fall arts preview in Baltimore Style Magazine (with Creative Alliance’s own Gina Caruso on the cover!), and Baltimore Magazine. The latter’s article on African Americans in the area’s art scene was particularly appreciated.

Enjoy your holiday weekend,

Jeannie
