On Saturday, Palestinian militant groups Hamas and Islamic Jihad fired thousands of rockets and sent about 1,000 gunmen from Gaza to Israel. In response, the Israeli Defense Forces retaliated with airstrikes and rocket attacks inside the Gaza Strip. Along with diplomacy, financial support, and international attention, artists have worked for decades to engage Israelis, Palestinians, and other neighboring countries in works that help create empathy and build peaceful relationships. There is so much to do to fight hate and support those who are suffering. There are also many worthy organizations who are providing aid. Like most of the world, we were horrified by the Hamas attack on Israel and want to send our support to the Israelis and the civilians in the Gaza Strip. The size and scope of the Hamas attacks cry out to us for justice, humanity, and love. Organizations on our list for support include:
The International Red Cross provides assistance during times of crisis, and has pleaded for an end to the violence between Israel and Palestine. Help here.
Save the Children is providing resources to affected children. Donate here.
The Carter Center has been promoting peace in Israel and Palestine since the 1990s. Donate to the cause here.
And closer to home, The Associated: Jewish Federation of Baltimore has established a special campaign to support and aid its allies on the ground in Israel, including those in Ashkelon who have been gravely impacted. Donate here.
