Baltimore Philharmonia Orchestra Composers Competition

The Baltimore Philharmonia Orchestra, in support of its ongoing mission to give recognition to talent in the field of classical music, announces the opening of its BPO Composition Competition for 2019-2020.

This competition is for composers ages 18 and older, and the winner will be named Composer-in-Residence with the Baltimore Philharmonia during the 2020 spring concert rehearsal and performance cycle . The orchestra will premiere the competition-winning composition during the April 2020 concert and repeat the performance in May 2020 at another venue.

To qualify, the composition must be no longer than 8 minutes in duration and must be written for an orchestra not to exceed: 3(2+piccolo) - 3(2+English horn) - 3(2+bass clarinet) - 2 / 4-3-3-1 / strings, percussion (timpani + 3; standard orchestral equipment only), one piano. The composition should not feature a soloist. Short solos from within the ensemble are acceptable.
