Conservation Assistant

The Baltimore Museum of Art (BMA) seeks an energetic, detail-oriented individual for the position of Conservation Assistant. The Conservation Assistant will be responsible for general office and administrative duties for the Conservation Department as well supporting department staff in care and maintenance of artworks in the Museum’s collections.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assists in the preparation and oversight of the departmental budget, processing of payments, and ordering and maintenance of laboratory and office supplies
  • Performs data entry and maintenance of digital records, photographic documentation, and hard copy files
  • Acts as the departmental liaison to IT, Registration, Rights & Reproductions, Installations, and Curatorial staff
  • Assists with travel arrangements, staff reimbursements, and providing support for departmental/staff presentations and publications
  • Handles department correspondence and inquiries by mail, email, or phone, and acts as Social Media representative for the department
  • Provides support for conservation activities in the lab and throughout the museum
  • Assists in collections maintenance including dusting of objects on display in the galleries, and manages a dusting schedule
  • Assists with monitoring museum climate and changing charts for hygrothermographs throughout the museum
  • Assists with integrated pest management (IPM) duties, including monitoring pest traps and inspecting incoming plants and objects for possible insects

This full-time (35 hours per week) exempt position reports to the Director of Conservation.
