Fools and Madmen’s Much Ado About Nothing, a Hip Hop Adaptation

Much Ado About Nothing

Casting 10 performers of color for a hip hop adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing. The show will tour and perform at Baltimore City Public Schools, plus one weekend of ticketed evening performances at Motor House this May 2019.

Roles are open to all genders and ages.

Note: This show will integrate modern hip hop with classical text and requires both rapping and classical acting, but actors do NOT need to have experience in both performance styles. Actors, rappers, spoken word poets, etc. are all encouraged to audition. Workshops on classical acting and performing hip hop will be held during rehearsals.

Rehearsals:

Rehearsals run April 8-May 26

First Read = April 8

Blocking/working rehearsals = April 10-May 22 Mondays, Wednesdays, Saturdays

Tech/Dress rehearsals = May 23, 25, 26

Performances:

BCPS Tour (weekday student matinees) = May 28-31

Motor House performances = May 31-June 2

Pay:

All roles are paid $100.

AUDITION DETAILS: Audition Location: Fells Point Corner Theatre, Address: 251 S. Ann Street, Baltimore MD 21231 Audition Dates: Sunday, February 24, 11am-4pm Tuesday, February 26, 6:30pm-9:30pm What to Bring: Your schedule/conflicts during rehearsal and performance period You do NOT need to bring a hard copy of your resume/headshot What to Prepare: Please prepare one ~1 minute monologue (either contemporary or classical) and ~16 bars of your favorite rap song. You may read off of or refer to lyrics on paper/cell phone for the rap portion, if needed. You will be asked to read from sides, which will be emailed ahead of time.
