MICA Seeks Part-time BCAN Program Coordinator

Summary of Essential Functions: The BCAN Program Coordinator will be part of a small, dynamic team and will work closely with BCAN's Program Director to manage the BCAN Mobile: a customized vehicle that transforms into a travelling community platform for educational workshops, an artist marketplace, a performance venue, and a promotional vehicle for creative entrepreneurs in neighborhoods across Baltimore. The position requires a highly collaborative, organized, detail-oriented, nimble, and community-minded person who enjoys working in a fast-paced startup environment. The position requires experience coordinating outdoor public events/productions and a passion for creating economic opportunities for Baltimore’s diverse creative community.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the setup, run of show, and breakdown of BCAN Mobile events
  • Participate in and contribute to the design of BCAN Mobile programming
  • Assist with the execution and tracking of artist, educator, and vendor agreements and schedules
  • Organize logistics for the deployment of the unit including but not limited to securing permits, communicating clearly with programming partners, creating rain plans, emergency response and wayfinding signage plans
  • Oversee event staff and volunteers to ensure operating needs such as customer engagement, sales, product display setups, driving, audio-visual setups are covered
  • Oversee vehicle maintenance, equipment and supply inventories, cleaning schedule and security to ensure vehicle is fully operational
  • Provide coordination and event support to BCAN programs including the BCAN Help Desk, BCAN Founder Fellowship, and BCAN Connect
  • Provide coordination with and ensure adherence to MICA policies and procedures that are applicable to BCAN Mobile activities
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Impeccable organizational and time management
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to work well with a wide variety of people
  • An unflappable, open mindset and grace under pressure
  • Experience managing outdoor public events preferred
  • Clear and effective oral, written and visual communications skills
  • Ability to delegate effectively, problem solve, and improvise in quickly changing situations
  • Facility with audio/visual equipment setups
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Love for Baltimore and its creative community
  • Self-starter who is comfortable working in a fast-paced and ever-evolving startup environment
  • Interest in entrepreneurship

Minimum qualifications:

  • Valid Maryland Drivers’ license and comfort driving an 18’ vehicle in a pinch
  • Proven experience managing programs in the arts
  • Evenings and weekends will be required
  • Ability to lift 25 lbs required, steps required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Entrepreneurial experience
  • College degree
  • Working with public programs in the arts

Reporting to this position: No direct reports, but expected to supervise interns, volunteers and contractors

  • Ability to travel, work evenings and/or weekends as necessary
