Creative Alliance seeks Lantern Workshop Coordinator

Compensation: $3600; $15/hour for 240 hours
Dates: June 17 to November 8, 2019

OVERVIEW

GHLP Lantern Workshops Coordinator will provide Creative Alliance lantern workshop preparation services for Creative Alliance at The Patterson, 3134 Eastern Ave, Baltimore, MD (410-276-1651). Coordinator will design a new lantern for approximately 1500 lantern makers between K-8th grade levels and coordinate approximately 20 workshops. Workshop Coordinator will work with Creative Alliance’s Teen Council and additional volunteers to prepare and store lanterns over the summer. Lantern workshops will occur in schools in our neighborhoods during the month of October leading up to the 20th Great Halloween Lantern Parade on Saturday, October 26th! Rain date is Sunday, October 27th.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

GHLP Lantern Workshops Coordinator will be responsible for:

  • Actively engage with students and volunteers during program and represent Creative Alliance
  • Work with Creative Alliance Education and Community Arts staff to develop lantern design that uses repurposed materials and honors classic themes of Halloween
  • Develop lesson plans for lantern making workshops
  • Develop step-by-step handouts with images
  • Manage and take ongoing inventory of supplies
  • Train up to and manage 20 teachers in new lantern design and teaching process
  • Work with Summer Avenger between July 1- August 2 to schedule time with Teen Council to prep 1500 lantern bases
  • Prep additional 500 pre-made bases to total to 2,000 lanterns ready for 20 workshops
  • Coordinate materials, delivery and storage of supplies for workshops at schools, community centers, Creative Alliance, and Lantern Parade
  • Provide their own have transportation and able to manage their time to complete tasks
  • Keep track of mileage for driving reimbursement @ $.058/mile with maps provided
  • Store all prepped lanterns at Crown Industrial Studios
  • Other duties as needed by Creative Alliance Education Department

Requirements:

  • Enthusiasm for Creative Alliance’s mission, programs, and workshops
  • Two years’ experience as lead community-based artist
  • Reliable means of transportation for travel between program sites
  • Submit to and pass a background check
  • Ability to establish and maintain collegial relations and collaborate with diverse communities
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills
