Daydreams + Nightmares Aerial Theatre Seeks Mask Designer & Fabricator

Daydreams + Nightmares Aerial Theatre (DNA Theatre) seeks a dynamic Mask Maker for our upcoming production of "The Sorrow Message." Our productions are visually engaging and require a sense of intense creativity and collaboration. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working with aerial performers, unorthodox materials and techniques and have impeccable knowledge of color theory. This position will require tight collaboration with our Hair & Makeup designer; Many elements worn by the performers will be hybrid mask / costume / hair / makeup. This is an independent-contract paid position with the following responsibilities:

  • Become part of the Development team that helps facilitate concept
  • Design all masks according to production's concept and story as determined by the consultation with Director and Development team
  • Fit masks to actors and adjusts them accordingly
  • Build amazing masks that show an attention to detail and craftsmanship
  • Attend regular production meetings

Our Mask Designer & Fabricator should have 2-3 years (after college) experience designing and building thought-provoking and visually astounding masks. The ideal candidate will be comfortable in an experimental and collaborative development environment and have a proven track record of executing a wide spectrum of concepts, types, periods, and styles. A strong, well-documented portfolio that communicates the ability to think big is desirable. This position requires strong organization skills and the ability to communicate clearly written, visually, and orally.
