SINGLE CARROT THEATRE SEEKS COSTUME DESIGNER & PROP DESIGNER FOR UPCOMING PRODUCTION OF PROMENADE: BALTIMORE

Single Carrot Theatre seeks a qualified COSTUME DESIGNER & PROP DESIGNER for our upcoming production of Promenade: Baltimore

This production does not take place in a theatre but rather on the streets around the city of Baltimore while the audience watches actors from a bus that drives a 12 mile round trip journey from Single Carrot Theatre. We are looking for a Costume Designer & Prop Master that is adaptive and flexible.

About the Promenade: Baltimore

This dynamic production, a collaboration between SCT and Hungarian theatre company StereoAkt, invites its audience to board a bus that traverses the city, passing through neighborhoods both familiar and unknown. Audience members watch through the windows as actors on the street present poetic expressions of everyday life in Baltimore, complimented by a live-mixed soundscape of music, narration, and stories based on and told by neighborhood residents.

Responsibilities and Expectations

The content of the piece and characters will be created during the rehearsal process in May. The Costume & Props Designer is responsible for working with the director, stage manager and actors to design and purchase costumes and props. Designer will work with cast and stage manager to obtain measurements, schedule fittings and identify any and all costume changes throughout the performance. The Costume Designer & Prop Designer are required to attend all production meetings and rehearsals as needed. Because of the nature of this piece, the designer should expect to attend more rehearsals than in a standard process. Due to the nature of this show many of the costume changes will be taking place on the move, potentially in cars or other locations along the route. The ideal candidate is flexible, adaptive, highly organized, with strong attention to detail, high artistic standards and comfortable working in highly collaborative environments.

Pay is a $400 honorarium, to be paid within two weeks of the end of the contract.

Pertinent production dates are as follows:

Start date: April 10th

Rehearsals: May 1-27th

Tech: May 28th - June 1st

Performances: June 2nd - June 25th

Rehearsals

SCT’s rehearsal schedule for this production will be a bit different than a typical SCT production. Rehearsals will begin May 1st and run throughout the month of May till the show opens on June 2nd. Rehearsal will be between 3pm and 9pm on Weekdays and Full Days during Weekends.
