Baltimore Museum of Art seeks Exhibition Graphic Design Manager

Overview:

The Baltimore Museum of Art seeks an Exhibition Graphic Design Manager to lead the exhibition graphic design, production and installation, to include design and layout of graphic materials for temporary exhibitions, permanent collection galleries and sculpture gardens. This role supervises the daily operations of the Exhibition Graphic Design Department

RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Oversee design of all exhibition graphic materials including logo designs and graphic identities, object labels, text panels, title walls, banners, photo blowups, donor plaques, stanchion signs, exterior signage, miscellaneous and occasional directional & wayfinding signage.
  • Work closely with the Exhibition Designer and Installation Manager to ensure appropriate design and implementation of gallery graphics.
  • Interact with graphic designers in Creative Services on a regular basis to ensure a consistent visual identity for graphics both inside and outside the Museum.
  • Maintain close communication with all curatorial departments, as well as departments of Education, Registration, Public Relations/Marketing, Visitor Services, and Development.
  • Promote and adhere to ADA graphics guidelines recommended for legibility when designing exhibition graphics.
  • Work directly with outside vendors when specifying, ordering, and purchasing materials pertinent to exhibition graphics.
  • Develop and maintain graphics budgets for all exhibitions, as well as graphics budgets for permanent collection maintenance and rotations.
  • Supervise and delegate projects to exhibition graphic designer, temporary contract employees, and interns/volunteers.

The Director of Exhibition Design & Installation reports to the Director of Exhibition Design & Installation and works closely with colleagues across the institution.

REQUIREMENTS • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience. • Master’s degree preferred • Possess firm knowledge of the Macintosh OSX platform, as well as proficiency in the Adobe CS Suite (Photoshop/Illustrator/InDesign/Acrobat) and Microsoft software (Word/Excel/Power Point/Outlook) • Ability to operate a large format inkjet printer and RIP server software.
