Baltimore Rock Opera Society Seeking Part Time Volunteer Director

Overview

The Volunteer Director is responsible for the smooth operation BROS Volunteer Resources department, ensuring that each and every BROS volunteer is a cultural fit for the organization, is effectively engaged, conducts themselves in a manner consistent with the organization’s values, and has a positive experience with BROS in accordance with our values. He or she supervises and provides consultation to management on volunteer placement, perks/compensation, training and development. This person reports to the Executive Director on issues regarding implementation of policies and procedures and the safety of volunteers. The VD is in charge of outreach and recruitment for the organization including efforts to diversify the BROS volunteer base. The VD is responsible for gathering information for the volunteer newsletter, No Floaters, by staying on top of weekly departmental emails. The VD actively recruit artists and volunteers from communities of color in Baltimore, ensuring that Baltimore’s minority communities have access to BROS programs and resources and are equally represented in the organization.

Specific Duties

The VD manages the complaint box and acts as a resource to Mediation Coordinators for volunteer complaints and concerns to find solutions to any issues and conflicts and to uphold the BROmandments.

The VD works with the show Volunteer Coordinator to orient all volunteers,making sure they are aware of all relevant policies, and maintain a database with contact information and hours tracking for every volunteer involved in the current show.

The VD may also work with the VC or Kitchen Captains also plan and coordinate all activities related to volunteer rewards, hospitality, and compensation. This includes volunteer parties or potlucks, volunteer rewards, and/or any other activities decided on by the VD.

The VD is responsible for the implementation of policies and procedures, ensuring they are properly accessible to all volunteers.

The VD Establishes and upholds the Code of Conduct for the organization by carrying out any disciplinary actions or performance-related policies for BROS volunteers. Leads or supports conflict resolution within the volunteer community with a high level of sensitivity and discretion.

The VD does outreach to organizations and communities to grow and diversify BROS volunteer base with a particular focus on creating meaningful and productive partnerships in underserved parts of Baltimore City and communities of color.

Builds methods for volunteers to give feedback on their experiences within BROS, working with the Executive Staff to incorporate performance-improving feedback.

Creates and sustains initiatives for improving the experience of BROS members based on community feedback.

Facilitates training opportunities and skills development workshops for BROS volunteers, depending on the needs of the organization, by tapping current creative leaders or outside artists/professionals to teach specific skills.

Works with Managing Director to facilitate budgets for various volunteer incentives & ops-related purchases
