BCS Director of Learning and Social Accountability

Overview

Baltimore Center Stage invites applications for the position of Director of Learning and Social Accountability (LSA) to join a dynamic, and often hilarious, senior artistic team. The Director of Learning and Social Accountability reports to Artistic Director Stephanie Ybarra, and works closely with the Director of Artistic Producing, Chiara Klein, as well as the Director of Artistic Partnerships and Innovation, Annalisa Dias. This position oversees all educational programming and is charged with collaborating to engineer internal and external social accountability actions while actively leading a culture of learning within the organization. This is a full-time position with a focus on building interdependent networks of learning and helping to create the conditions for joy-filled, inclusive programming.

Key Responsibilities
The responsibilities, competencies and expectations outlined below are representative, not exhaustive. Responsibilities may shift as needed to best align with organizational needs.

Learning

  • Oversee the curriculum development and project management for touchstone educational programs: Young Playwrights Festival, Student Matinees and BCS Camps.
  • Build, deepen and maintain relationships with key stakeholders such as teaching artists, educators, caregivers and young people.
  • Stay up-to-date on policy shifts locally and state-wide with regards to education standards and arts education practices.
  • Oversee the design and implementation of assessment tools in service of a deeper understanding of the impact and efficacy of BCS learning programs.
  • Supervise LSA Program Assistant.
  • Maintain department expense budget, including quarterly projections.
  • Identify fee-for-service activities to meet annual income goals.
  • Imagine forward and envision possibilities at every scale.

Social Accountability

  • Build and maintain interconnected networks to help inform how BCS may best contribute to life in Baltimore and throughout Maryland.
  • Collaborate with various stakeholders to identify internal and external accountability actions.
  • Collaborate with Artistic Director and Executive Director in supporting and deepening ongoing institutional learning around antiracism and anti-oppression (ARAO).
  • Liaise with the Board Vice President for Progress and Equity to help maintain staff and board alignment around ARAO activities.
  • Support and amplify the work of the self-organized staff ARAO group.
  • Imagine forward and envision possibilities at every scale.

Organizational Leadership

  • Engage in solution-oriented thinking with regard to challenges facing BCS.
  • Serve as an ambassador for BCS both locally and nationally by attending convening’s and conferences
  • Attend and participate in Board meetings and committee meetings as assigned
  • Participate in public speaking events representing BCS’s values and aspirations.
  • Actively participate in the season planning process and lead key moments in staff and board communication around season planning.

Hiring Process

Every applicant’s LSA Statement will be reviewed by the Artistic Director and the Assistant to the Artistic Director, and then selected applications will be reviewed in full by the Assistant to the Artistic Director with a recommendation as to which candidates will receive interviews. First round interviews will occur on a rolling basis and will be conducted over the phone or Zoom with the Artistic Director throughout the month of October.

Final interviews will take place in November over multiple Zoom meetings with members of the Cabinet and Senior Artistic staff as well as the Executive and Artistic Directors. An offer is expected to be made no later than November 30.

The position is currently expected to start in January, 2021.

Health Insurance, BCS contributes 75% of the monthly premium for an individual’s coverage and the employee is responsible for 25% - for a high-deductible HSA plan; Dental and Vision Insurance is available, premiums are paid 100% by the employee on a pre-tax basis; Life Insurance: coverage (2x annual salary to a maximum of $50k); Long Term Disability: the amount of insurance is 60% of your basic monthly earnings, with a minimum of $100 and a maximum of $5000 per month; Tax Sheltered Annuities available; Retirement Plan; FSA/Dependent Care; Leave Time; Sick & Safe Leave
