Summary
The France-Merrick Performing Arts Center, a 350,000 square foot historic building located in downtown Baltimore and home to the historic and legendary Hippodrome Theatre, is seeking a highly motivated and ambitious individual to serve as a full-time Facilities Maintenance Technician. The Facilities Department is responsible for the day-to-day repairs and preventative maintenance of the physical venue and is here to support the Production and Front-Of-House departments in their daily needs. The Facilities Maintenance Technician will report to the department supervisor and perform duties as assigned. A love of historic buildings, their preservation and live theatre is highly recommended!

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performing daily walk-throughs of the entire premises to check light bulbs, exit signs, cleanliness, restroom supplies, doors, windows, and general orderliness
  • Ensuring the facility is safe and secure for employees and guests by monitoring, reporting, and when possible, resolving any hazards or issues that could create security or health risks in or around the building
  • Moving, setting up, and striking equipment for events, including changing of the exterior marquee as needed
  • Unloading, storing and/or delivering mail packages, theatre programs, show merchandise, building supplies, and other shipments as directed
  • Minor repairs and maintenance including plumbing, electrical, painting, drywall finish work, filter changes, exterior clean up, pressure washing and snow removal.
  • Routine inspection and limited maintenance of larger building systems such as HVAC, generator, fire suppression and monitoring equipment, and security systems.
  • Meeting with vendors to monitor and direct work for large repairs or projects.
  • Assisting the Facilities Manager, Technical Director, and Director of Theatre Services, as needed
  • Assisting in the supervision, direction, inspection and reporting on activities of the cleaning crew
  • Making occasional trips to hardware and supply stores to pick up supplies for the theatre
  • Maintaining and keeping the facilities storage area, work spaces, and tool rooms in an orderly and clean condition

Education and/or Experience.
Qualified individuals for this position should possess:

  • A basic general knowledge of and experience with mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems
  • At least 1 year experience in building repair and maintenance, or formal education in a related field

Communication Skills

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret communication and/or instructions from print, e-mail, text messages and other digital communication sources
  • Ability to send and respond to emails, text/app messages, telephone calls and 2-way radio communication for repair/maintenance requests throughout the day
  • Track all daily activity, task progress, and observations for daily reporting and meetings with department heads and supervisors
  • Understand basic usage of a computer and/or laptop using Microsoft Word, Excel and web browsing software
