Art Educator Free Family Sundays -Temporary, Part-Time at the BMA.

The BMA is seeking a temporary Lead Family Programs Art Educator for the BMA’s Free Family Sundays workshop series. Lead Educators will plan and execute drop-in art workshops for families. This role will work in partnership with the Director of Public Programs and the Education and Interpretation division to develop the program’s curricula and art-making activities, as well as lead the artmaking workshops.

Free Family Sundays is a weekly, intergenerational, drop-in, artmaking workshop series designed for families with children ages 6-9-years old. Workshops take place weekly on Sundays from 2 pm – 5 pm in the museum Studio. Program activities are designed to encourage participants to think like artists through intergenerational artmaking activities inspired by works on view. Projects are designed to reflect the core elements, materials, and processes demonstrated in works from the museum’s collections and exhibitions.

The ideal candidate will work well independently, be adaptable, collaborative and have the ability to teach and create across various mediums. Candidates will research works and artists on-view to develop accessible artmaking workshop projects. They will demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and a willingness to connect with program participants.

Hours include 5-6 hours of on-site classroom facilitation time, 3-4 hours of on-site/hybrid workshop preparation and project development time. The total anticipated weekly commitment is 10 hours.

Schedule: 2 –3 Sundays per month. This is currently a temporary position through December 2025.

RESPONSIBILITIES

· Lead classroom activities during Free Family Sundays workshops

· Research, develop and facilitate workshop projects and themes.

· Direct assistant teacher and program assistants during program hours

· Be available for: On-site workshops Sundays 12:30 pm – 6 pm | 5-6 hours of hybrid project and program development at other points in the week.

· Research, develop and submit project proposals in a timely manner for review.

· Manage and identify program supplies and create supply lists.

· Participate in workshop set-up and break-down during programs

· Manage and support the upkeep of the classroom studio and supplies

· Support visiting guest artists

REQUIREMENTS

· Demonstrated experience developing and facilitating hands-on artmaking activities for families and children.

· Curriculum development experience in a museum setting is preferred but not required.

· Demonstrated knowledge of current best practices in child development theory and arts-based

pedagogy

· Confident and approachable facilitation style

· Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills

· Excellent written and verbal communication and strong attention to detail

This is a bargaining unit position.

HOURLY RATE - $32.55
